What?!?!
Tuesday September 15, 2009.
I will be working from home today, because I have an anomaly ultrasound at 12:15. Actually, I decided to work from Fido's that morning. I invited one of my friends, Sheila along with us. We were so excited. We did our ritual lunch at Fido's; Mediterranean salad, yummy. I could not order my usual Wishbone coffee drink that tastes like a s'more, so I opted for the caffeine free hot cider. The guy behind the counter even chuckled, and said he needed to go get his scarf from the back.
We went back to for the ultrasound, on time. It was in fact a girl. The screening took a lot longer than I had thought it would, but I just thought the girl was very thorough. Nor did I think anything about her comment about saying, how she was sorry, that she usually talked during the screening, but Adalynne was just moving around too much. I remember breathing very deeply during the screening, and she said are you okay. "Yes, I am fine." I guess because I am a nurse she thought that I saw what she was seeing, a lot of abnormalities. We were in there for what seemed like forever. Sheila had to leave to meet some air conditioning people at her house. Ryan and I waited forever. By the time 2:15 rolled around I told the office I had to reschedule my appointment with my OB because my son had to be picked up from school at 3. They would not let me leave, and I still did not think anything of it. Wow, I thought, they really have great customer service.
My regular OB was in surgery so I met with the sweetest, genuine, caring doctor. She said very matter of factly. The images are not normal. She has several concerning features and we have called a specialist and they would like to see you right now. Her heart has several defects, she has a extra digit on her left hand, her kidneys have bright spots on them; and the specialist needs to take a closer look. "Oh, okay," I said sobbing, "Ryan can you drop me off and go get Harrison and then come to the specialist." The doctor looked at me and said, "Can anyone else pick up your son, you do not need to be alone." Everything else she said sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher. I could not understand what she was saying...just breathe.
